GSM, usable width, and tolerance should be written as measurable buyer requirements. A fabric name or reference image does not define the measurement point, condition, or acceptance limit by itself.

Define each measurement

Field What to state
Finished GSM Target weight, permitted tolerance, sample or bulk stage, conditioning method if relevant, and the test method used for approval.
Usable width The width required for cutting, how it is measured, whether selvedge or edge allowance is included, and the permitted tolerance.
Construction state Whether the fabric is open or tubular, relaxed or otherwise conditioned, and any construction detail that affects comparison.
Dimensional checks For shrinkage or other dimensional behavior, give the method, treatment, direction, condition, and buyer acceptance limit.

Avoid ambiguous tolerance language

Write the numeric target and permitted range in the specification rather than using terms such as standard, stable, or within normal tolerance. When a tolerance is still open, mark it as a decision for buyer and development review.

Apply these measurement questions to the Single Jersey, Rib Knit, and French Terry categories, then use the application guides to add garment context.
